As a data engineering manager, you will lead a team responsible for developing, maintaining, and testing data solutions with a wide variety of data platforms including relational databases, big data platforms, and noSQL databases. Your team will develop various data ingestion and transformation routines to acquire data from external data sources. You are an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.


RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Lead a small team of data engineers to bring our scattered data into a central location and prepare it for use by end customers.

  • Work with the head of analytics and senior leaders to define our data roadmap.

  • Manage and mentor junior data engineers and ensure that their work is aligned with our roadmap.

  • Define and document methods for capturing and organizing data.

  • Work with engineering teams to specify, design, and implement the infrastructure for storing, searching, visualizing and integrating datasets.

  • Monitor the quality of information output and report against changing data needs.

  • Track the flow of data within analysis pipelines, ensuring successful processing and data validity.


QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience managing, mentoring, or otherwise leading engineering teams. 

  • Ability to see data engineering as a key element of the larger company strategy and how it fits into strategic initiatives.

  • Ability to draw conclusions from data and provide recommendations for improving data acquisition.

  • Experience with SQL development in relational databases.

  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.

  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disparate data sets. 

  • Ability to bring forward new ideas around data acquisition, storage, and delivery.

 

NICE TO HAVE

 

  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, RDS, Redshift, and Lambda.

  • Proficiency in creating data flows using visual tools such as Matillion, Informatica, etc.

  • Experience with SQL development in relational databases such as Postgres, Redshift, and MySQL.

  • In depth knowledge of transactional and reporting database structures.
