This position can be located within the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. and will require the ability to periodically attend in-person meetings in Edinburg, VA and other Company locations as the business needs require.
I. Job Summary:
Responsible for all accounting, financial reporting and internal control aspects of the Company. Major responsibilities include technical accounting, general accounting, tax compliance, internal, external and regulatory financial reporting and filings, compliance with SEC, GAAP and SOX regulations, internal controls development and monitoring, coordination with external auditors, ensuring accurate and timely completion of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing process.
II. Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Lead the accounting organization including establishing the organizational structure, staff responsibilities, staff development, recruiting and evaluating personnel.
b. Develop and maintain accounting policies, evaluate non-routine transactions and research, document and communicate accounting and disclosure implications to the business.
c. Manage the preparation, coordination and review of the external and internal financial reporting of the Company including the Forms 10-K and 10-Q, internal financial statements, Board of Director reports and other regulatory reporting.
d. Manage our outsourced tax advisor in developing the income tax provision, the timely preparing and filing of all federal and state income tax returns and monitoring the income tax internal controls.
e. Leverage technical accounting knowledge and risk assessment skills to actively lead the remediation of any material weaknesses in internal control over financial reporting.
f. Provide accurate, timely and complete financial results through written and verbal communications to the Board of Directors, CEO, CFO, COO, audit committee, other executives and management personnel.
g. Ensure compliance with SEC, GAAP, non-GAAP and SOX regulations.
h. Establish an effective internal control policy and procedure environment within the Company and montior compliance to ensure accurate financial reporting and disclosures.
i. Develop and monitor the internal controls of the Company.
j. Partner with functional leaders to understand current operational trends and assist in balancing the advancement of accounting practices and strategies with current demands of the business.
k. Demonstrate and hold employees accountable for stewardship of the Company’s positive people philosophy and the Shentel Way.
III. Qualification Requirements:
a. Education: BS Accounting and CPA required. Master’s degree in related discipline preferred.
b. Experience Level: 15 plus years of financial management experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm and with publicly-traded companies. Telecom industry experience a plus.
c. Expert-level technical knowledge, inclusive of researching and applying U.S. GAAP and current internal control guidance, with an ability to summarize and drive executive understanding of the pros and cons of complex methodologies. Ability to “cut through the noise” and prioritize issues while clearly and concisely documenting judgmental evaluations.
d. Ability to navigate technical accounting and internal control guidance in order to implement practical solutions. Experience weighing alternative views to identify the most appropriate solution.
e. At least 10 years of direct leadership experience over accounting and audit teams required with strong coaching and development skills.
f. Ability to allocate and balance team and business resources to achieve optimal business results.
g. Excellent analytical ability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in teams.
h. Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, written and interpersonal skills required. Able to effectively articulate the Company’s position to management, auditors and the board of directors as requested.
i. Can build presentations appropriate for executive, board of director and external audiences and present a compelling story.
j. Strong ability to work across organizational boundaries and lead the advancement of the Company’s strategies and growth plans.
k. Proven track record of being able to build constructive and effective relationships both internal and externally, using diplomacy and tact, based on mutual trust and respect.
l. Excellent analytical, project management, planning and organizational skills.
m. Strong knowledge/appitude of ERP systems, MS products (particularly Excel) and report writing tools.
