Vista Global Solutions (VGS) is looking for a qualified Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) Engineer (Intermediate) to support our contract at the Brooke Army Medical Center, located on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, TX.

 

Job description

We’re seeking an Intermediate WLAN Engineer to assist in the day-to-day management and sustainment of the BAMC Wireless Network.  This includes but is not limited to performing configurations changes on the Wireless Network i.e. Registering Wireless Access Points to the Wireless LAN Controller (WLC), managing radio signals on the Wireless Access Points, configuration of SSID’s and authentication on the WLC.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform configurations changes on the Wireless Network i.e. Registering Wireless Access Points to the Wireless LAN Controller (WLC), managing radio signals on the Wireless Access Points, configuring SSID’s and authentication on the WLC.
  • Assist system administrators with attaching new devices to the network as they are purchased. Configuration changes will be issued individually in the form of tickets, or be part of a larger overall project.
  • Perform troubleshooting on the wireless network i.e. problems related to same channel interference, access point saturation, RF interference, access point radio power issues, and roaming issues.
  • Perform IP management through the creating of DHCP Scopes, and IP reservations on a Windows based DHCP server.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Cisco Identity Services Engine(ISE) for authentication of End User Devices and Medical Devices on the wireless network.
  • Configure or troubleshoot basic network technologies on the local area network to support the wireless network, or to support any LAN requirements i.e. configure a switch port as a trunk or access port, add or remove a vlan from a trunk, create a vlan on a switch, and check Power over Ethernet functionality.
  • Perform on-call duty on evenings, weekends, and holidays to fix critical network outages and may be required to return to the work site to resolve. Contractor shall submit overtime documentation to the first line supervisor for review, first line supervisor will send documentations to the COR for approval.
  • Assist the data center manager by providing periodic checks of the data center or checking the air conditioners for functionality during electrical work.
  • Report any problems to BAMC facilities in the absence of the Data Center Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of network engineering experience in a Wireless network consisting of more than 10 wireless access points.
  • Experience with IP addressing, subnetting, and supernetting using IPv4.
  • Meet the requirements for an IAT Level II position as defined in DOD 8570-01-M.
