Under general supervision, to perform a variety of manual custodial tasks involved in the housekeeping and maintenance of public buildings. Custodial facility assignments may change depending upon the needs of the department.
This position exercises no supervision.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Sweep and mop floors; vacuum; dust and clean offices and other work areas.
- Polish furniture; collect and remove waste; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms, and change burned out light fixtures.
- Strip and wax floors.
- Move and/or lift furniture, boxes, and other materials.
- Open and close facilities for use; secure the facility at closing.
- Inventory and pick-up supplies.
- Operate buffer to polish floors.
- Operate carpet extractor machine.

Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Materials, methods, and practices used in custodial operations.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions of custodial operations.
Proper use and care of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment common to custodial operations.
Operate a variety of custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, and buffer.
Maintain a schedule of cleaning and work with a minimum of supervision.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Six (6) months of experience in custodial services is preferred.
Formal and informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certificate:
A current valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Pass a comprehensive Federal background check.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb.
With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift up to 100 pounds.
Exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work spaces, chemicals, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
Ability to travel to different sites.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Must be able to work some holidays.
