Aquatics Technician- Aquatics
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Manager, to operate, repair, maintain, and clean mechanical equipment for pools and splash pads operation. This includes water filtration and chemical purification systems. Responsible for pool and splash pads monitoring and ensuring that equipment functionality meets quality standards. Service and calibrate erosion feeders and bleach/acid pumps and probes and secondary sanitation systems including the use of UV light on the aquatic center and 5 splash pads.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises no supervision.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintain aquatic center pools and splash pads during hours of operation.
Testing water chemistry, backwash the systems, and maintain chemical logs.
Respond to calls and inquiries regarding aquatic center pools, and splash pads maintenance.
Adjust chemical balance as needed. Includes adding chemicals and calculating proper dosage requirements to meet standards for oxidation and sanitation.
Perform routine maintenance, checks, and repairs on gauges, flow meters, sand filters, pumps, UV system, and other equipment as necessary.
Assist with maintenance in other recreation facilities and areas in the off season.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Operations of pools and splash pads including chemicals, gauges, flow meters, sand filters and backwashing.
Filtration pumps, UV sanitation systems, and automated chemical feeders.
Bleach and acid chemicals and their effects on the water balancing.
Skill to:
Communicate effectively with supervisors, facility maintenance co-workers and contracted and other outside aquatic resources on items related to aquatic center and splash pads operation.
Maintain chemical balance in aquatic center pools and splash pads through routine testing and/or alerts.
Keep pump houses and pads free of clutter and debris.
Ability to:
Work flexible hours and work on-call hours and on-call hours as needed.
Respond to service calls in a timely manner.
Diagnose and adjust aquatic systems as necessary.
Drive to different locations.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:
One (1) year of previous experience working with pools and/or splash pads is required.
One (1) year of working with chemical test kits and automatic chemical feeders is required.
Education/Training:
A High School Diploma or GED is required.
License or Certificate:
Certified Pool Operator certification is required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
To facilitate on-call response time, must reside within city limits of Abilene or less than three miles outside the city limits of Abilene.
A reliable vehicle to use in the performance of job duties.
