Clatsop County occupies the northwest corner of Oregon bounded to the north by the Columbia River and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. Named for the Clatsop Indians, Clatsop County is rich in history, scenery and opportunity.

Seeking one regular full-time Environmental Health Specialist (37.5 hours per week) to perform a variety of introductory investigative and survey duties to monitor for conditions that could affect the public’s health. The successful candidate is skilled in use of field test equipment and lab sampling techniques and will enforce compliance with environmental health regulations, implement changes to eliminate hazards, issue licenses and permits, and provide public education and other functions as assigned. This position is represented by AFSCME Local 2746, Courthouse Roads unit.

Mandatory Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree with 45 hours’ life science such as environmental health, biology, or microbiology. Ability to learn and interpret licensed facility statutes and administrative rules. Basic computer skills including office programs.


Registered or eligible for registration as an Oregon Environmental Health Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist Trainee within two months of hire. When hired as a trainee, must complete the trainee program within the Oregon Health Licensing Board time frame and obtain certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist and maintain annually.


Must possess and maintain driving privileges in the state of Oregon.
