Under the direction of the Tooling Manager, the Tool Maker is responsible for mold, tool and fixture build using all tool room equipment, and providing technical support.  This will include, mold design input, scheduling, troubleshooting. 



This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded from time to time to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.


·         Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures and housekeeping standards.

·         Ability to repair molds, tooling, and fixtures and document as required.

·         Performs complex tool making procedures requiring fitting and assembling parts, and making adjustments to meet requirements.

·         Work within a team environment to resolve production issues or tool failures in our production facilities.

·         Must be able to operate and program all Tool Room equipment and machines.

·         Must have the ability to program conversational and tool path programs in multiple formats.

·         Knowledge of Electrical discharge machining.

·         Sets up and operate conventional, special-purpose machines to fabricate tooling components; and fit and assembles these components into production tooling and fixtures.

·         Set-up and operate automatic and manual machining equipment for the manufacturing and repair of injection molds.

·         Weld repairs as needed

·         Perform preventive maintenance on all molds/dies

·         Design and build gauges to check accuracy of parts

·         Build jigs and fixtures as needed

·         Resolve mold / die performance issues

·         Manufacture new molds/dies to meet production demand for existing and new products, to the highest quality and modify existing molds/dies

·         Have knowledge of speeds and feeds for carbide cutters used in machining tool steels.

·         Manufacture prototype parts from engineering prints and if possible improve prototype parts.

·         Provide mold and tool expertise to design reviews and product.

·         Supervisory Responsibilities – None.

Two year associate degree in machine tool technology and a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a general machinist or preferably a toolmaker in wax or plastics injection mold manufacturing environment. Knowledge and ability to design tools using auto cad.  Must possess good computer skills and be able to learn new skills as needed.  Must be familiar with blue prints and GD&T concepts.



Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees to share information, solves problems, and instructs or train lesser skilled employees.  Must have the ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, shop orders, work plans, and short correspondence.  Must be able to write standard reports and documentation.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.



Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.



Requires the ability to operate various equipment to include computer, various precision measuring devices and lifting devices.  Requires a broad knowledge of tooling, material characteristics, and general manufacturing and machining practices.  Should be knowledgeable and/or familiar with applicable ISO/TS and quality system requirements and policies.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
