We have an important role to play in securing the region’s clean and reliable energy future and seek folks from a variety of disciplines to join us! In this role you will coordinate the activities of the team to successfully deliver solutions for projects in a timely manner, in addition to providing 24x7 production support (through an on-call rotation). This role also involves communication with Operations groups to gain and sustain understanding of business processes and operational issues related to power system and market operations as well as with IT peers to devise effective and efficient IT solutions.

 

The right candidate for this role brings both an engineering perspective and an IT perspective to the solutions and services provided by the IT department. The role also provides subject matter expertise, including but not limited to: Day Ahead Market, Financial Transmission Rights, Auction Revenue Rights, Load Forecasting, and Markets Monitoring. This role is responsible for developing and diversifying the skills of the team members to meet future challenges and ensure the continuity of succession plans.

How you will make an impact:

  • Follow and promote the IT Tenets-Efficiency, Reliability, Security and Cost Effectiveness.
  • Develop and diversify the skills of the team members to meet the Digital Transformation challenges and evolving ISO-NE Electric Grid Reliability and Markets responsibilities.
  • Assign team members to lead Subject Matter Expertise (SME) discussions with applications vendors to ensure the vendor products meet Business Owners’ requirements. Whenever applications are shared by other ISOs/RTOs, ensure ISO-NE Custom needs are met.
  • Ensure you and your team members adhere to all applicable IT and corporate policies and procedures and all applicable regulatory standards, including CIP compliance.
  • Ensure  24x7 Production Support(including On-Call Support) coverage for the applications supported by the team
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) through in-depth knowledge of the applicable theory, algorithms, and solution techniques to ensure the effective and efficient design, development, and implementation of solutions.
  • Incorporate business, engineering and IT perspectives into designs and solutions.
  • Communicate with Operations groups to gain and sustain understanding of business processes and operational issues related to power system and market operations.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to schedule resources and coordinate the team activities to successfully deliver solutions for projects in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the selection of consultants and vendors.

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated competence in a Lead Role for a major cross-functional project
  • Experience with Linux, PL/SQL, Java, Kubernetes, and DevOps
  • Deep knowledge of two or more of the following domain areas:
    • Optimization algorithms, electricity market rules, and application integration methods for complex computer systems
    • Bulk power system operations and EMS power system analysis tools such as State Estimation, Contingency Analysis, and Optimal Power Flow and how these applications interface with the Market Systems
    • Day Ahead Market, Financial Transmission Rights, Auction Revenue Rights, Load Forecasting, and Markets Monitoring
  • Desired but not required:
    • 5+ years of supervisory experience
    • 7+ years’ experience in Markets Clearing applications within the electric utility industry, including Market Clearing Engines (MCEs) and Markets Database
    • GE/AREVA Markets Clearing applications experience
