The Reading Truck Equipment - Design Engineer is responsible for creating new and modifying existing Engineering documentation for Reading Truck Equipment’s entire line of standard and engineered vocational vehicle upfits. Responsibilities include creating or modifying drawings, bills of material or other supporting documentation to meet customer requirements.

•Design complete custom upfits utilizing Solidworks and/ or AutoCAD software. This will include 3D mechanical design, electrical/ chassis integration, layout functionality, etc.
•Create electrical and hydraulic schematics
•Perform structural analysis for new and existing engineered components
•Create/ modify SolidWorks and AutoCAD assemblies for stock parts, drawings, etc.
•Layout, draw and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical/ electrical systems
•Design custom parts for integration into vocational vehicles to meet customer, technical, and regulatory specifications
•Interpret customer specifications to complete an engineering package of drawings and bill of material for manufacturing
•Support lean manufacturing initiatives to provide customers with products that meet or exceed customer requirements while improving internal metrics
•Assist Designers with required engineering expertise
•Guide professional development of Designers
Position Qualifications & Requirements:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar preferred (Mechatronics Engineering, EET, EMET); may consider Associates Degree with appropriate experience.
•Three years of experience in Upfit Engineering, Mechanical Engineering/ Systems Design, or chassis integration
•3D design: Solidworks/ PDM proficiency and certification - preferred
•Hydraulic and electrical system design experience - preferred
•Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S etc. - preferred
**Finite Element Analysis experience - highly preferred **
•Solidworks certification - highly preferred
Skills and Abilities:
•Excellent working knowledge of sheet metal design and weld fabrication processes, along with knowledge of assembly and welding procedures
•Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Possess the ability to recognize the application of multiple equipment components and their combined integration to achieve specific requirements
•Effective oral and written communication; excellent interpersonal skills
•The ability to collaborate with a multi-department team

•Sedentary work with extended periods of computer use
•Occasional work in warehouse/manufacturing plant.
•Must be able to wear required Personal Protective equipment (PPE)
