Customs Coordinator - International & Air Operations
SUMMARYCoordinate the operations and customer service of International, NVOCC agents from the corporate HQ support center and across the agent network. Ensure that international NVOCC shipments are serviced properly and agents and employees are managing international NVOCC business in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Coordinate the documentation required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for entry of goods into the U.S. on behalf of our Landstar agents' importer customers. Maintain and keep current all customs compliance documentation. Process documents through the Company's ABI system, obtaining Customs' release and other government agency releases as appropriate. Work closely with Landstar agents and other corporate departments to deliver high level of service to customers. Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Independently research ocean freight rates and recommend the most reliable and economical routing.Coordinate the movement of shipments with service providers to meet the requirements as requested by our agent or his customer.Communicate with agents and/or customers and co-workers to facilitate the efficient movement of cargo.Interpret ocean carrier rate changes and as a result maintain internal rate quotation software as required as well as the input of new service contract rates.Execute the company compliance program with NVOCC agents concerning the shipment of hazardous materials, denied parties listing, import and export licensed cargo, FMC regulated tariff filing issues and more.Train new NVOCC agents on Landstar international policies, procedures, and systems.
Custom Brokerage Operations
Facilitate customs clearance on behalf of Landstar agents and their importer customers.Maintain and keep current all customs compliance documentation.Ensure collection of documents with Landstar agents.Timely creation and filing of customs entries.Ensure communication of clearance status to Landstar agents.Communicate with U.S. Customs.
REQUIRED SKILLSMinimum of 3 years current work experience in ocean transportation intermediary or VOCC (vessel operating common carrier) operations activities in the USABasic knowledge of U.S. Administration Regulations (e.g. FMC, Hazmat, EAR) and other government agency requirementsGood working knowledge of domestic and international geography including countries, major cities, and seaports1 year of customs brokerage experience (no broker's license required).Computer skills including MS Office applicationsStrong verbal and written communication skillsMust be able to multi-task
Minimum Education: High school diploma or general education degree, required; Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, preferred;
