Summary
Responsible to install and maintain landscaping projects throughout the City.  Assist the Maintenance Foreman to plan and schedule work assignments related to the landscaped areas that the Parks Division maintains.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with Parks Superintendent /Park Planner in the design and plant selection of landscaping projects
  • Obtains price and orders materials needed to accomplish Landscape projects
  • Supervises and provides instruction to crewmembers to ensure proper completion of project
  • Develops and recommends maintenance program for all plant areas
  • Conducts weekly inspection of downtown pots and bi-weekly inspection of landscaped areas at all city facilities and parks
  • Coordinates & collaborates with irrigation team to adjust watering requirements based on plant needs, including new plant establishment. Performs minor repairs as needed
  • Maintains the City’s tree farm and identifies areas where trees can be planted
  • Documents and reports the trees status and new trees planted
  • Coordinates and works with outside contractors on various landscape projects
  • Completes bi-weekly payroll, creates and reviews goals for landscaping team
  • Supports special events, both City and private, and assists with the staging, set up and take down 
  • Ensures City financial policies, procedures, and safety guidelines followed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience in landscaping, horticultural services or related area
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal training in horticultural services and techniques
  • Demonstrate experience in a lead or supervisory role 
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 
  • Valid driver’s license  
  • Valid pesticide applicators license or ability to obtain license within six months of introductory period  
  • Valid Texas Department of Agriculture chemical applicator’s license appropriate for non-commercial use or ability to obtain within six months of introductory period
