Basic Function: 

 

Ensure all NJNG natural gas purchase and sale nominations are completed on pipelines, storages, and with counterparties on a timely basis. Accurately track all nominations and natural gas flows in the gas management system.  Assist with month end close.  Assist with annual regulatory filings. Comply with all regulations and internal policies.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Learn to Schedule gas on various NJNG pipelines.
  • Record all relevant information passed to counterparties by either IM or phone recording with complete date, including year, on IM’s as per our procedures.
  • Complete all nominations in the various pipeline electronic bulletin boards before the pipeline deadlines and the gas management system by 3pm. Notify all supplies/markets of all point and contract changes.
  • Be able to explain and understand your position on a daily basis. Know amount of gas supply at each city gate meter daily and what options you have to increase/decrease supply at each gate.
  • Maintain Storage (injection/withdrawal) and Power Plant burn activity spreadsheets.
  • Ensure the most efficient and reliable path is used for capacity.
  • Ensure that the Supply Market Daily Balance Report, Nomination Balance Report and the Deal Aggregate Imbalance Report are all in balance, or properly reflect pipeline imbalances, for all days already scheduled, each afternoon by 3pm.
  • Work with Gas Control to make sure they are aware of any pertinent issues. Assist them in any way needed – for example: volumes, confirmations, marketers, EBB issues.
  • Review all contracts at least bi-weekly to check for swings and other imbalances. Fully understand our options with settling these imbalances and any potential penalties. Bring up any issues in the morning meeting.
  • Send meter burns email daily to gas control. Ensure the correct tolerances and over/under burn instructions are clearly stated in the email. Ensure the email contains information regarding OFO’s on place on the various pipelines.
  • Participate in daily morning meetings. This can include supplying information detailing what is flowing to markets and how much gas we can flow to sales. Supply information on all open capacity and any monthly imbalances in the meeting. Discuss any capacity constraints for current day, current month and upcoming months. Ensure the trader is aware of any important changes.
  • Participate in monthly set up meetings, operational meetings, winter set up meetings.
  • Alternate weekly duty of on-call person. On duty person must monitor all contracts over the weekend and be available for all problems that arise on the weekend and at night. Be available for questions when not on call, or make sure team members know when you will not be available.
  • Take an independent approach to learning how all of the NJNG transportation and storage contracts work. Question others to make sure you understand how they work together to meet our city gate and off system needs.
  • Understand how the various NJNG Incentive Programs work.
  • Assist in preparation of BGSS filing as necessary. For example; learning how to prepare exhibits, work papers and testimony that support the BGSS filings, recovery mechanisms and goals.
  • Assist with the volumetric month end close for NJNG.  Review storage volumes and obtain and file pipeline verification for each volume. Review all rates for the close. (commodity, demand and storage). Coordinate review of all reports to make sure everything is in balance. Understand where all of the pieces come from and make sure nothing is missing.
  • Assist accounting with any billing / pipeline discrepancies. Print any available bills for NJNG accountant.
  • Must adhere to Risk Management Guidelines and all relevant Pipeline / FERC / BPU rules.
  • Actively support NJNG Vision initiatives.
  • Maintain effective internal and external contacts. Work in the spirit of cooperation that fosters teamwork and a sense of responsibility.
  • Notify Gas Supply Administrative Assistant of any changes to external contacts. Make sure all regular contacts are correct in Microsoft Outlook.
Position Specifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Mathematics, Economics or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in the natural gas industry is required.
  • Must be detail oriented and proficient in Excel.
  • Must have good multi-tasking and communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work non-traditional hours as need.
