THE MISSION OF PROJECT HOME:
The mission of the Project HOME community is to empower adults, children, and families to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, to alleviate the underlying causes of poverty, and to enable all of us to attain our fullest potential as individuals and as members of the broader society. Project HOME achieves its mission through a continuum of services comprised of street outreach, a range of supportive housing, and comprehensive services. We address the root causes of homelessness through neighborhood-based affordable housing, economic development, and environmental enhancement programs, as well as through providing access to employment opportunities; adult and youth education; and health care.

As a member of Executive Leadership, the Vice President, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (VPDEI) serves a strategic partner to leaders across the organization in Project HOME’s journey to strengthen our capacity to live our mission and values by fostering an anti-racist, diverse, equitable, and inclusive beloved community internally (staff, residents) and externally (patients, students, program participants, community partners, and others). The VPDEI is responsible for driving, championing, and ensuring implementation of the ongoing DEI Action Plan. This role is charged with designing and delivering creative, outcomes-focused content, strategies, and solutions gained through ongoing community feedback, research of best practices, and other methods relating to recruiting, retention, training and professional development, compensation, and employee engagement. Highly collaborative and cross-functional, this role serves as a partner to the Executive and Senior Management teams and chairs the DEI Steering Committee. The role will partner closely with internal and external communications staff to design and deliver communications plans related to DEI. The role will drive organizational strategy related to our existing affinity groups. The role is an executive level position and reports to directly to Associate Executive Director with dotted-line reporting to Executive Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Vision & Strategic Leadership:
• Work with leaders across the organization to embed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into all parts of Project HOME including advising on strategic and departmental plans to advise on the integration of DEI principles and be accountable for the evolution of a DEI strategy and implementation of DEI initiatives underway.
• Bring content knowledge and strategy expertise to assist in implementation of our dynamic DEI Action plan and Strategic Plan goals related to DEI; report out on these initiatives. Monitor, adjust, and enhance plan accordingly.
• Create an organization-wide DEI strategy that brings content knowledge and systems to infuse anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of Project HOME’s recovery culture and operations.
• As a member of Executive and Senior Management teams, support organizational strategies to advance the organization’s DEI goals; provide coaching and training to this group.
• Develop and execute measurable, short- and long-term DEI strategies to support Project HOME's strategic goals and transformation efforts.
Tactical & Operational Leadership ;
• Partner with Mission Nurture/Internal Communications to create formal and informal channels to hear feedback from employees, residents, patients, students and participants aimed at continuous program/organizational improvement.
• Collaborate closely with internal and external communication teams to establish a communication strategy and plan about Project HOME’s DEI work – for both internal and external audiences.
• Develop content, systems, and structure in partnership with HR to integrate DEI strategies and solutions into the employee experience, including but not limited to talent acquisition, development, performance evaluations, employee engagement, and compensation.
• In partnership with Training team, develop and deliver content for effective, trauma-informed training and programming that recognizes the diverse experience of race and identity of staff, residents, and program participants, including comprehensive delivery of DEI curriculum, including in onboarding, annual all-staff training, and supervisory trainings.
• Partner with executive team and senior management and serve as a resource to the whole agency bringing knowledge and experience to advance cultural competency in the delivery of our programs.
• Chair the staff elected DEI Steering Committee empowering employees to assist in the execution of DEI initiatives; act as an advocate, partner, and sounding board to committee members.
• Provide support for employee-led affinity groups and guide the evolution of these types of organizational cultural initiatives.
• Create clear evaluation tools and outcome metrics to assess impact of DEI initiatives.
• 10 years of executive-level management experience, including five years leading systems-level DEI-informed human resources, training, and organizational development solutions and strategies; success leading change management in large, complex organizations. of Experience designing strategies and metrics, driving accountability and delivering results.
o Proven track record of collaborating with HR to enhance hiring and retention efforts in attracting and retaining a highly talented, diverse workforce.
o Strong interpersonal skills; experience influencing and being a change agent, ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
o Deeply connected to a diversity of networks that can support/contribute to this work at the institutional and community levels, such as vendors, educational institutions, professional associations, recruitment networks, etc.
o Experience using technology including integrated systems and databases as a tool to extract and analyze data, evaluate performance and outcomes, manage contracts and budgets, etc.
• Experience and content expertise in developing training on general diversity topics as well as specific competencies.
• A combination of life and work experiences and education that demonstrates the ability to collaborate effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions to achieve significant organizational change.
• Sophisticated understanding of the social/economic/political conditions that give rise to tremendous inequity and oppression resulting in homelessness and poverty in our community.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field; open to non-traditional paths of education and life experience.
• Experience working in a non-profit organization.
• Preference for a candidate who is bi-lingual.
• This position will require some evenings and weekends based on business needs, events, and other times designated for community leadership.
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
