JOB SUMMARY:
Serves as The Salvation Army representative during assigned court sessions; documents disposition of all probation related hearings; provides recommendation, observations and direct assistance to the judge regarding specific probationer's cases; reviews probationer files and provides the judge with specific court documents for signature and further processing; assists Probation Counselors by asking judge particular questions and researching specific information; collects, receipts, and processes fines and fees received from probationers.

Attends and participates in all court sessions representing the interests of The Salvation Army Corrections Department.
Assists any presiding judge or the judge's judicial assistant by providing pertinent information pertaining to the defendant's case.
Documents dispositions of all probation related hearings (i.e. violation of probation, case reviews, restitution hearings) as well as sentences of new probationers; files all "no show" violations of probation and/or affidavits for violations of probation.
Conducts interviews with defendants sentenced to probation and instructs them where to report and how to start probation sentence.
Collects, reviews, and organizes files for clients scheduled to appear in court; lists all new cases and reconciles with the court docket; assists judge by providing information for client file and recommendations offered by the Probation Counselor; asks judge questions regarding files that have programs or specific questions of the Probation Counselor.
Provides the judge, court personnel, or probation office employees with special information and perform special duties concerning specific cases such as research of information from court records or determine if a defendant in court is on probation, identifying their Probation Counselor, and determining how long the defendant has been on probation, etc.
Gather and delivers court documents to be filed with the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in a timely manner.
Advises superiors or Probation Counselors and responds to questions regarding individual cases that require special attention or needs; assists Probation Counselors in determining appropriate court date, time and division when violating probationer for a new charge.
Receive, distribute and collect warrants which the clerks and or sheriff's office have determined to have errors and return corrected work back to corresponding agencies.
Researches police reports, dispositions, restitution charges, bond receipts, etc.; travels to police stations, Court Clerk's office, state attorney' office, etc. to pull files and photocopy necessary information; provides information to Probation Counselors.
Collects and/or files all warrants, notice of hearings, terminations, and modifications and revocations of probation; obtains judges signature, photocopies and distributes same to applicable agencies.
Collects, receipts, secures and delivers monies received from defendants in court; processes and verifies check requests to pay court fines imposed on the probationers as a condition of probation; delivers fines and restitution checks to the court.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transports court documents daily such as warrants, affidavits of violations of probation, modification and termination orders.
Updates the computer for all time changes per court action on files when there is a termination in court.
Assists supervisor with special projects when the court is not in session.
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related field,
and
Two years progressively responsible experience in a court system or probation, parole, social casework or counseling with at least six months experience working in The Salvation Army Corrections Program,
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid State
Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of criminal justice principles and practices.
Extensive working knowledge of court procedures and legal terms in order to assist judges and instruct clients.
Knowledge of The Salvation Army Corrections probation policies and procedures.
Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices.
Knowledge of time management practices and procedures.
Ability to represent The Salvation Army's interest in a professional and positive manner and in compliance with established polices, procedures and regulations.
Ability to work effectively with presiding judges and court staff including ability to be attuned to the philosophy, procedures, and disposition of each individual judge.
Ability to testify in court and provide observations and recommendations regarding defendants probation conditions and/or termination of probation.
Ability to process data from violations of probation in order to identify special circumstances and the appropriate procedures to be taken.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all court staff .
Ability to cultivate and maintain and good / excellent working relationship with court staff and Judges.
Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
Ability to interview clients and to obtain pertinent information.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete court session records and client records.
Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with judges, court personnel and defendants.
Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the clients cases as outlined by the established policies and procedures.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to speak publicly before large audiences.
Ability to think clearly and quickly under pressure in order to provide recommendations and observations to the judge.
Ability to make reasonable suggestions and recommendations to the courts and occasionally make creative sentencing suggestions for irregular cases.
Ability to work independently and with little of no direct supervision from The Salvation Army while attending court sessions.
Ability to arrive at court sessions on timeregardless of inclimate weather
Duties are usually performed seated.Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The majority of the incumbent's time is spent workingin a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts
associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.Due to the nature of the job, however,time must also be spent visiting inmates where the physical discomforts may be more noticeable.
