The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Building Maintenance Worker/Custodian for the Command, located in Pensacola, FL.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Performs routine repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment; performs routine grounds keeping work to ensure the beautification of the landscape; performs minor plumbing and carpentry repair work. Cleans and maintains the buildings and grounds to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                       This position description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the major responsibilities and requirements of this position.  The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position description.

 

Building Maintenance Duties

 

Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor pluming repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls.

 

Maintains the grounds to include, trimming hedges, blowing leaves, and collecting debris; maintains the beautification of the grounds.

 

Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.

 

Drives truck in order to pick up materials and repair items needed for maintenance work.

 

Cleans surroundings after each repair job; ensures that all tools are collected and surroundings are left neat and clean.

 

Monitors lighting and changes light bulbs when needed.

 

Maintains all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department.

 

Drives Salvation Army vehicle to pick up materials, supplies, donations, mail, and the like.

 

Custodian Duties

 

Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.

 

Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks.

 

Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.

 

Washes, folds, and stores laundry and linens.

 

Empties trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds.

 

Assists in setting up meeting rooms as needed

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High school diploma or G.E.D.

 

And

 

two years experience performing maintenance work in a general maintenance environment

 

or

 

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

 

Valid state driver's license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.

 

Knowledge of striping, waxing and polishing tiled flooring.

 

Ability to learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions.

 

Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds.

 

Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner.

 

Ability to maintain driving ability according to State, DOT, and Salvation Army policies, procedures, and certifications.

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

Ability to frequently perform heavy lifting of supplies, materials, etc. weighing up to 50 lbs.

 

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.

 

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
