Boys and Girls Club Program Coordinator
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Program Coordinator for the Port Arthur Boys and Girls Club, located in Port Arthur, Texas.
Plans, develops, and directs a range of activities and programs that enhance the educational, health, social and spiritual development of all youth for the SA Boys & Girls Club; ensuring the needs and aspirations of young people in the areas of Education, the Arts, Social & Physical Recreation, Character Building, Health & Life Skills, and Spiritual Development are addressed and fulfilled. Assists in the recruitment and supervision of program staff and volunteers; responsible for the effective use of facilities, maintains all program equipment; plans and coordinates a youth mentorship program; able to represent the Club within the community and build a professional and positive image of The Salvation Army.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of youth education and development, recreation planning and management, &/or Boys & Girls Club programs. Has some knowledge and understanding of the Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, culture, protocols, and organizational structure. Is able to serve as an athletic coach and to coordinate athletic games. Ability to recruit, train and supervise volunteers. Ability to promote and encourage good sportsmanship. Ability to promote the Club within the community and to recruit youth participation in Club membership and programs. Ability to present a positive and professional image of the Salvation Army and the SA Boys & Girls Club.
Education and Experience
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university required, with a Bachelor’s degree preferred in Child Development, Education, Business Administration, Ministry, or a related field, and two years’ experience participating in and coordinating similar youth programming, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Driver’s License, First Aid and C.P.R. Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe) Commercial Driver’s License, C.D.L (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements (required to be on-site a minimum of 80% of the operating hours of the program). Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Spanish referred but not required. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to drive a vehicle safely and follow all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Ability and willingness to perform all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed standing and walking and relieved by periods of sitting to perform other duties. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Non-Exempt Position. 29 hours a week. Hourly rate of $11.69 to $13.16 commensurate with experience.
