The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Sorting Room Supervisor for the Family Thrift Store located in Winter Haven, Florida.

Job Summary

Supervises and participates in the work performed by employees and community service workers in the Sorting Room/Warehouse; ensures that all donated items are processed through the warehouse in a timely manner and in accordance with established standards; ensures the thrift store remains adequately stocked.  Opens and closes store and carries keys as requested by Store Manager. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of effective and efficient warehouse operations. Ability to lead, motivate and evaluate the work of co-workers. Ability to sort and determine the suitability of donated items. Ability to prepare accurate and complete inventory records. Ability to ensure the warehouse area and equipment are maintained in a neat, orderly, and secure manner. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with donors and Center staff.

Mental and Physical Abilities

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Moderate mobility:  duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.  Distance of travel is usually within the same building. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred, and three years experience performing warehouse work with at least one year experience in a supervisory capacity, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

Fork Lift License.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
