POSITION SUMMARY:
Instructs YMCA swim lessons at the Independent Health Family Branch and the Ken-Ton Branch in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment. This is a part-time position.
Instructors will be scheduled to teach up to three classes per week, which are about one hour in duration. Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts safe, effective, and fun swim lessons in accordance with the YMCA swim lesson program design.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and assists in emergency situations. Provides aid to swimmers when necessary.
- Documents swim lesson skill achievement and attendance. Completes and distributes participant completion forms.
- Ensures proper usage and storage of instructional equipment.
- Is alert, friendly and responsive to participants, parents, and co-workers.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Follows department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas.
- Maintains required certifications and attends staff training sessions to practice skills and learn program standards.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Ability to swim in compliance with YMCA program standards.
- American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute BLS, First Aid, Oxygen Administration certifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups.
- Ability to follow direction and enforce safety rules.
